How did the Scientific Revolution and Newton contribute to the ideas of the Enlightenment?
They questioned tradition and commonly held ideas about science and religion. They were the first to really "prove" religion wrong, so to speak. I'd say Copernicus and the big astronomers of the time had more of a contribution than Newton because they basically said, the universe revolves around the sun rather than the Earth, which was against what the Bible said. The Church actually made Galileo recant what he said about the solar system or else he would have been arrested and probably killed. Very interesting topic.
