What do you think of this possible solution to drive by shootings and shootings in general?

My husband and I were talking about how every day we read about a drive by shooting or some form of shooting of another individual. My husband then gave what I thought was a viable solution. If a person is arrested/convicted of a second offense shooting another individual, whether it results in a death or a serious injury, the law should insist that their trigger finger gets cut off. Without a trigger finger, it will be much harder to shoot a gun in the future. If they get arrested for a 3rd offense, but the trigger finger off of the second hand. We are sick and tired of all these felonies being committed every day and very little done to deter these shooters except for a small jail time.
